The Result (the good stuff first)
The retreat sold out quickly, with a waiting list forming as attendees booked seamlessly through the website. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, praising the combination of business development workshops, mastermind sessions, and community connection. The event successfully covered expenses and, as a group, attendees chose to donate the leftover funds to 88 Bikes, supporting girls in Thailand to access school and work by bike.
The Problem
Post-Covid and while on maternity leave, I wanted to reconnect with a community of female business owners. After speaking with others, it became clear that many were feeling the same: isolated and eager for meaningful connection, learning, and support. I wanted to create a structured experience that combined networking, skill-building, and inspiration.
The Approach
I treated the retreat as a small business project, creating a logo, mini-branding, and a website where participants could learn about the event and book their spot. To shape the retreat, I ran surveys within women’s business groups to gauge interest, location preferences, format, and discussion topics.
I collaborated with a fellow female entrepreneur to provide in-house catering and designed a weekend schedule of workshops and mastermind sessions focused on business development. Marketing was primarily through networking groups and the website itself, with automated booking and email confirmations for attendees.
Outcome and Feedback
The retreat was a success: fully booked, highly engaging, and praised for its mix of learning and community. Attendees appreciated the professional organization, accessible booking process, and the opportunity to connect with like-minded women. The leftover funds were donated to 88 Bikes, giving the event a meaningful, social impact beyond the retreat itself.
